Much can be said about why people don’t eat breakfast. Some of the reasons include not having enough time to prepare a meal, wanting to sleep in, cutting back on calories, or some people don’t feel breakfast food is enjoyable. Despite any excuses or reasoning for not eating breakfast, it is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle.
Put simply, breakfast means “the first meal of the day or morning meal (Dictionary.com).” Breakfast is important because our bodies rely on regular food intake. They need fuel and energy to keep going throughout the day. Studies show that it is best for people to eat between 3 and 5 meals each day. Skipping that first meal of the day leaves the body starved and tricks it into craving more food when it is time for the next meal. This can also cause weight issues and lead to health problems. By skipping breakfast people tend to grab quick, sugar-filled items for energy to keep them going which isn’t healthy for the body.
Here are some solutions to help combat the reasons why people don’t eat breakfast:
- Not Enough Time: have an apple, make a bowl of cereal or oatmeal, grab a cereal bar, or even taking some yogurt with you on the go can count for breakfast. Prepare a breakfast smoothie, waffles, or pancakes the night before so you can eat on the go the next morning.
- Sleeping In: prepare breakfast the night to allow for extra sleep. You can also wake up early, prepare your breakfast, and then go back for a small nap.
- Cutting Back on Calories: Eat multiple times throughout the day. This is much healthier than skipping meals.
- Breakfast Food Not Enjoyable: Breakfast is simply the first meal of the day; you don’t have to eat breakfast foods. You can always eat something that better suits your preference in the morning.
