As a college student I know about stress; just like many of you. Juggling our work, school and extra curricular activities is difficult, but it can surely be done and without pulling your hair out from stress. The top 5 stress reduction tops that help me out are:
1. Get Sleep
Late nights and early morning classes are not good for your body. You need a set sleep schedule that incorporates at least seven hours of sleep a night. Getting a good amount of sleep will help keep your mind focused, recharged, and energized.
2. Eat well
Healthy eating is difficult with a busy schedule but is still very important. When you eat well, you feel better. It helps that we now have a Wal-Mart nearby with many options. Eating a balanced diet will help keep your stress level down.
3. Get some exercise
Now that the weather has changed and it is getting nice; go for a walk or just get outside. Get some fresh air and take a few deep breaths. This way you can stop thinking for a short time and just relax. Exercise releases endorphin’s which protect you from depression, relax your muscles, and help you sleep better. Exercise does not always mean you need to go to the gym.
4. Plan ahead
It is better to be prepared than unprepared I always say. Write out a schedule and plans for the week. Ask yourself: what do I have scheduled? You can also start completing homework that might be due in a few days or weeks. Be a step ahead of the game and try not to procrastinate. You will feel better when you know what you plan is for the week. You will also be relieved when your homework is complete and no longer a worry.
5. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Don’t freak out about the small stuff. You will just be stressing yourself out for nothing. If you cannot control it, then there should be no reason to worry about it. Breathe deep and move on with your life.
